The clown lives in a state of pure play—open, vulnerable, and always ready to leap, stumble, and fail with joy and resilience. In doing so, the clown reveals our shared humanity, inviting us to laugh at the unthinkable and embrace the seemingly unlovable. Through playful exploration, the clown connects us to our deepest truths.

Join us in Ubud, Bali at the beautiful Pelangi School for a 5-day Red Nose Clown Workshop, where we dive into the world of clowning through playful exploration and embodied exercises. We'll explore the personal and unique ways our somatic bodies move, trip, dance and play to discover our unique clown forms all while building a physical comedy toolbox.
Throughout the week, you’ll engage in games and activities designed to enliven the body, free your capacity for spontaneous play, and deepen your vulnerability. On the final day we will bring the techniques, skills and play together in a casual clown showcase for friends and family.
Training Includes:
Games to awaken the body and encourage natural impulse responses
Activities to foster play, spontaneity, and creativity
Ensemble-building exercises for group openness and risk-taking
Guided exploration to discover each student's unique clown form
Coaching in physicality, voice, costume, and character for clown persona development
Embodiment exercises to release tension and enhance movement freedom
Basic physical comedy skills like trips, slips, falls, and slaps
Introduction to partner acrobatics to build trust and collaboration
Simple act creation and devising technique

This workshop offers a transformative blend of laughter, self-discovery, and connection. Whether you're new to clowning or a seasoned performer, you’ll explore physical comedy, develop your clown character, and discover new ways of moving and playing. Together, we'll uncover the heart of our personal clowns and leave with a deeper understanding of our physical presence, all while connecting with joy and authenticity.

From carving your own clown nose to experiencing the wonder of a Kecak performance at sunset, let us help you experience the rich artistic traditions of Bali. Each afternoon/evening over the five days of our Red Nose Clown Training, we invite you to join us as we experience both traditional and modern art, dance and culture in the Ubud, the heart of Bali's art scene.

Hi, we're Joan & Hannah! We've been clowning and teaching together for over ten years and are the co-founders of ClownCorps, a social clowning organization dedicated to using clowning, compassion, and play to transform individuals and communities.
We both bring deep passion and experience to our workshops, and we facilitate with authentic joy and impish delight.
